We know that sleep duration is very important for our daily performance processes; however, due to professional or private circumstances, we do not always manage to find enough time for our sleep. In two extensive studies over several working days, we were able to find out that sleep duration promotes our motivation and professional performance via a positive mood and the perceived availability of resources. However, when sleep duration was low, employees were still motivated and able to perform well if they were overall comfortable with their psychological resources and knew how to quickly replenish their resources. This is due in part to the fact that people can learn to remain focused and productive even under difficult circumstances by managing their resources well in everyday work.
