Pedelec riding challenges muscles and the cardiovascular system almost as much as conventional cycling. This is shown in a study published today by Hannover Medical School (MHH) (BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine, 2023; DOI: 10.1136/bmjsem-2021-001275).
According to the study, the heart rate of e-bikers during cycling was only five beats per minute lower than that of cyclists, taking into account therapies with beta-blockers for high blood pressure and for heart disease. The drugs lower the heart’s beating rate.
